چکیده

This paper describes a novel method for acoustic trapping of submicron particles in glass capillaries using secondary acoustic forces. By using preloaded larger particles (seed particles) to initiate clustering, trapping of submicron particles is greatly improved and can be accomplished at lower concentrations. As a potential application for this new method we demonstrate capture and enrichment of Escherichia Coli.

Frequency tracking in acoustic trapping for improved performance stability and system surveillance.

This work proposes and demonstrates an acoustic trapping system where the trapping frequency is automatically determined and can be used to analyse changes in the acoustic trap. Critical for the functionality of this system is the use of a kerfed transducer that removes spurious resonances. This makes it possible to determine the optimal trapping frequency by analysing electrical impedance. It ...

Three-Dimensional Numerical Modeling of Acoustic Trapping in Glass Capillaries

Acoustic traps are used to capture and handle suspended microparticles and cells in microfluidic applications. A particular simple and much-used acoustic trap consists of a commercially available, millimeter-sized, liquid-filled glass capillary actuated by a piezoelectric transducer. Here, we present a three-dimensional numerical model of the acoustic pressure field in the liquid coupled to the...

Characterization, photocatalytic, and antibacterial activity of Ag–TiO2 nanoparticles prepared by electrical arc discharge method

A simple, inexpensive and one-step synthesis route of Ag-TiO2 nanoparticles by arc discharge method isreported. The resulting nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electronmicroscopy. X-ray diffraction patterns demonstrate dominance of rutile to anatase phase in TiO2 andformation of silver metal on TiO2 after arc discharge process. Scanning electron microscopy im...

O-4: The Interaction of Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles with Mesenchymal Stem Cells In Vitro

Background: Bioactive glass (BG) nanoparticles are amongst the most promising class of biomaterials for hard tissue regeneration because of their distinctive properties of rapid bone bonding, controlled biodegradability and their ability to stimulate new bone growth. Despite the vast interest in BG scaffolds in medical applications, the synthesis of bioactive glass nanoparticles is still facing...

Photocatalytic degradation of E. coli bacteria using TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles with photodeposited platinum

In this work, TiO2 /SiO2 (pure anatase), and TiO2 /SiO2 (anatase/rutile) nano-photocatalysts are prepared by using sol-gel method and control of acidity. The particles size is calculated using Scheerer, s equation and is estimated to be around 7-15 nm. In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 /SiO2 ,1% (wt) platinum particles are loaded on both catalysts using photoreductive meth...
